Social media is still trending among lawyers

The number of lawyers who are using social media as part of their overall marketing strategy has grown from 60 per cent to 68 per cent.

The Attorney at Work 2016 Social Media Marketing Survey reveals some interesting insights into lawyers and their use of social media as part of their marketing strategy.

The survey found that, while fewer lawyers are using social media compared to a year ago (88 percent compared to 91 per cent in 2015), the number of lawyers who are using social media as part of their overall marketing strategy has grown from 60 per cent to 68 per cent.

More lawyers now seem to attribute social media marketing to their success gaining new clients. Of the lawyers responding, 44 per cent give credit to social media for bringing them new clients.

The top three social media channels used by attorneys are LinkedIn (89 per cent), Facebook (72 per cent) and Twitter (47 per cent).

An interesting generation gap was revealed by the survey. Older lawyers (37 per cent) say LinkedIn is the best source of new business, but the under-30s (47 per cent) say Facebook is best.

Amy Hambleton, RedLaw Director, commented, ‘It appears that lawyers’ use of social media as a marketing technique shows no sign of slowing. We always advise prospective candidates to ensure that they have a high-quality profile online. The best law firms want to recruit solicitors with strong networks as well as technical skills.’
