Market Roundup: Associate, October 2020

"Motivations to recruit are balanced between team growth and recruitment to replace."

Since July 2020 we have seen a gradual resurgence of the Associate market; initially across Employment, Private Equity, Construction (both contentious and non-contentious), Insolvency and Disputes but this has recently expanded to include transactional areas such as Corporate, Real Estate and Commercial Property. Motivations to recruit are balanced between team growth and recruitment to replace – but the latter is likely to be indicative of replacement of departures from much earlier in the year. We have also found that many firms have returned to an opportunistic view in relation to recruitment and will consider candidates speculatively in their key practice areas.

Video conference interviewing has now become the norm, although interestingly we have found that the recruitment process has shifted to some combination of both VC and in-person interviews. This seems to be at the bequest of both firms and candidates and is very understandable given the importance of team/cultural fit (particularly with the increase in flexible working).

We remain instructed on wide range of roles in various practice areas. To view a selection of available roles please see our Roles page on our website.
