A good listener, empathy, honesty, genuine market knowledge deployed skill fully and tactfully to add value as a trusted intermediary.
What’s one thing law firms look for in candidates that they don’t always say outright?
Having a can-do attitude and common sense is assumed to be a given, but you would be amazed how many candidates get sidetracked by non-material issues and miss the bigger picture.
What do you think sets a great lawyer apart from a good one in the hiring process?
Hunger, drive, charisma, strategic vision.
If you could give one tip to lawyers preparing for interviews, what would it be?
Have the “why?” clearly articulated
What’s one thing candidates should never say in an interview?
Anything negative! Projecting positive energy is so important..
What’s the biggest misconception about legal recruitment?
That we are overly driven by the short- term fee. What drives those of us who have been around for a few years is the importance of doing an excellent job, because satisfied stakeholders leads to more good quality work and a trusted advisor relationship being nurtured with happy clients!
What’s your proudest moment at RedLaw so far?
No single one moment springs to mind- I try to be consistent and level- headed and focussed on delivering for clients.
What’s one piece of career advice you wish you’d received earlier?
Emigrate to Fiji. In seriousness I have been lucky to always have good mentors.

Resilient

Practicing law (probably not very well)
