Two Birds With One Stone
The challenge (the lawyer’s story)
— A real estate lawyer with four years’ post-qualification experience at a national law firm, “Kim” was hoping to find a property role with a highly regarded firm that offered good career prospects.
— At the time, there were very few job opportunities for real estate lawyers.
— Kim’s options were further limited by the fact that she was being made redundant by the national firm following a nine-month sabbatical.
The challenge (the law firm’s story)
— We had been asked by a new client law firm – a leading national practice – to find a generalist banking and finance lawyer with property finance experience for its London office.
— Other agencies had already tried – and failed – to produce a candidate who satisfied all the firm’s requirements.
The solution
— During our research, we learned that the firm had previously recruited a number of banking/property finance lawyers, only to lose them after a short time because the lawyers preferred to work on banking, rather than real estate, transactions.
— Having completed our analysis, we recommended that the law firm change its approach and recruit a real estate lawyer with property finance experience who could take ownership of all real estate work in London.
— We presented Kim as an ideal candidate for the role on the basis that she was a natural leader who possessed strong initiative, enjoyed taking responsibility and was a confident business developer with the ability to build the firm’s real estate practice in London.
— We assisted and supported Kim throughout the interview process.
The outcome
— In just two weeks, we helped the law firm solve a longstanding problem and found an excellent new role for Kim at a time when market conditions were extremely difficult.
